Summary
This research aims to understand the homelessness experience of children accommodated in transitional support services in a large urban context in Australia.
The study will
- Investigate and seek to understand the impact of homelessness on children’s:
a) Health and well-being
b) Parental and family relationships
c) Participation in education
d) Community connectedness e.g. social activities, developing relationships with other children
- Provide evidence to inform the development of policy and programs that will assist and enhance the health and well being of children who have experienced homelessness.
- Investigate children’s perception and understanding of home and homelessness
- Provide children with an opportunity to give expression and voice to their experience.
- Draw on children’s experience and understanding of their involvement in homelessness service delivery to inform the development of good practice in homelessness and related services.
- Identify and document the existing knowledge, practice and service barriers regarding working with children in homelessness services.
