Dr Maggie Kirkman and Prof Doreen Rosenthal, with Louise Johnson of the Infertility Treatment Authority, have written a book to guide parents in telling their adolescent children that they were conceived using donated sperm or eggs. The book was launched last week at the Infertility Treatment Authority, and is available on the ITA website as well as in hard copy. The world-first research on which the book is based was recently published in Human Reproduction. Funded by DHS, the research investigated secondary school students’ views on how parents could tell their adolescent children that they were donor-conceived.

Sexual decision-making by young people is being accelerated by electronic communications and pervasive sexual content in the media, warns international sexual and reproductive health expert, Professor Doreen Rosenthal AO, who is addressing the problem by launching a new sex education and reproductive health site called your Your Sex Health. "The website is unique not only because of the breadth of topics covered but also because it plays out scenarios based on many real-life dilemmas that young people face, such as becoming pregnant, being pressured into sex, and relationship problems." The Framework for Action recognises the impact of gender in health and health inequalities and argues that an investment in women's health is an investment in the health of the entire community.
