Background

Dr Rowe is a health scientist with a background in genetics, psychology and health promotion. She has been on the academic staff at the Key Centre since 2000. Dr Rowe teaches in the Masters and Post Graduate Diploma of Women's Health and the Master of Public Health and coordinates Semester 3 of the Health Practice subject in the undergraduate medical course. She supervises student research in the PhD, Masters and Advanced Medical Science programs. She is the KCWHS Course Advisor.

Research Interests

Dr Rowe has broad research interests in mental health promotion for women in reproductive life, including for unplanned pregnancy, for women’s use of medical technology in pregnancy, and for prevention of mental health problems in mothers of infants. Dr Rowe’s research includes the evaluation of health services and mental health promotion programs.

She is a co-investigator on major research projects including Mothers, Fathers and Newborns: Preventing Distress and Promoting Confidence (PEPP), funded by Australian Family and Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Understanding women's experiences of unplanned pregnancy and abortion, an ARC linkage funded study in collaboration with the Royal Women’s Hospital and VicHealth, and a controlled trial of treatment for maternal mood disorder in residential early parenting centres, funded by NHMRC  . Dr Rowe works with external health care agencies including The Royal Women's Hospital, Sunshine Hospital , Tweddle Child and Family Health Service, Masada Private Hospital, and with metropolitan and regional local governments in Victoria.
